Jesus reveals that despite countless expressions of human brokenness, there are only two fundamental ways we live it out: seeking fulfillment through worldly pursuits or trying to earn worth through performance. The parable of the prodigal son illustrates both paths through two brothers who end up far from their father's house. The younger son rebels openly, chasing pleasure and success, while the older son works tirelessly to prove his worth. Both approaches leave us empty and exhausted. The beautiful truth is that the Father actively pursues us with compassion, ready to restore us beyond our expectations when we stop running and turn toward home.
